A Calendar of Tradition
Lawrence College maintains a rich calendar of commemorative events and traditions throughout the academic year. These events connect the present student body with the long history of the institution, honour those who have served and sacrificed, and celebrate the achievements of the Gallian community.
From formal parades to sporting finals, from prize-giving to the OGAP reunion, each event in the Lawrence College calendar carries its own significance and contributes to the distinctive character of the Gallian experience.
Founders' Day
The most significant commemoration in the Lawrence College calendar, Founders' Day celebrates the memory of Sir Henry Lawrence and the founding of the college in 1860. The day typically includes a formal parade, speeches by the Principal and distinguished guests, prize-giving, and the singing of the College Song.
Prize-Giving Ceremony
Academic, sporting and co-curricular achievements are recognised at the annual Prize-Giving ceremony. Prizes are awarded across all three schools — Junior, Preparatory and Senior — by a distinguished guest (often a senior Old Gallian). The College Song is sung and the event is attended by parents and Old Gallians.
Passing-Out Parade
The Passing-Out Parade marks the departure of the Senior School's final-year students from Lawrence College. It is one of the most emotional events of the year — a formal ceremony combining military drill, speeches and the symbolic "passing out" of the gates that have shaped the Gallians for years.
OGAP Reunion
The Old Gallian Association Pakistan organises an annual reunion that draws Old Gallians from across Pakistan and around the world back to Ghora Gali. The reunion includes formal dinners, tours of the campus, sports matches between Old Gallians and current students, and the inevitable rendition of the College Song.
Inter-House Sports Finals
The climax of the inter-house sporting calendar, when the four houses — Wightwick, Walker, Peake and Wright — compete for the championship shield. These finals attract the entire college community as supporters and are among the most keenly contested events of the year.
Remembrance Day
Lawrence College commemorates Remembrance Day in memory of Old Gallians who gave their lives in service of the nation — in both world wars and in Pakistan's own military conflicts. A service is held at the Memorial Chapel, and the Roll of Honour is read aloud in solemn tribute.
The Memorial Chapel
The Memorial Chapel at Lawrence College is the focal point of commemorative activity on campus. Built in the Gothic Revival style during the British era, it serves both the Christian community within the college and as a place of collective remembrance for all Gallians regardless of faith.
The chapel's interior features plaques commemorating Old Gallians who fell in both World Wars and in subsequent conflicts. Their names are inscribed for perpetuity, ensuring that their sacrifice is never forgotten by the generations of students who pass through the chapel's doors. The chapel was renovated in 2022, restoring it to its historical splendour.
The Roll of Honour
Lawrence College maintains a Roll of Honour recognising Old Gallians who have achieved distinction in service to Pakistan and the world. This includes recipients of national honours, senior military officers, judges, ambassadors, scientists, sportsmen and public servants who have reflected credit on their alma mater.
The Roll of Honour is publicly displayed in the college and is updated periodically as new achievements are recorded. It stands as testimony to the college's success in nurturing leaders across every sphere of national life.
