The Beating Heart of Gallian Life
The inter-house competition is arguably the defining feature of Lawrence College life. From the day a new student is assigned to his house, the inter-house competition gives him a community to fight for, a sense of belonging, and a series of contests in which to prove himself and contribute to his house's success.
Points are accumulated across a vast range of sporting, academic and cultural activities throughout the academic year, with all points feeding into the overall inter-house shield competition. No other single thing generates more excitement, pride and community spirit at Lawrence College than the inter-house competition.

The House Shields
Three principal shields are contested across the academic year and presented at the Prize-Giving ceremony:
- Quaid-e-Azam Cock House Shield — awarded to the house accumulating the most points across all inter-house sports, academic and cultural competitions. The most coveted prize in the Lawrence College year.
- Sir Henry Lawrence Trophy — awarded to the runner-up house in the overall inter-house competition.
- Ehsan Shield — awarded to the best house across all three schools (Junior, Preparatory and Senior) — recognising excellence across the entire college community.
The Cock House Shield represents the collective effort of an entire house across an entire year of competition. The pride of winning — and the determination to reclaim it in the following year — is one of the great driving forces of Gallian life.
The Spirit of Competition
Lawrence College takes great care to ensure that the inter-house competition, while intensely competitive, is conducted in the best sporting spirit. The values of fair play, respect for opponents, and gracious acceptance of victory and defeat are reinforced at every level — by staff, prefects and the broader college culture.
Old Gallians recall their house allegiances with great warmth decades after leaving the college. The inter-house competition is one of the experiences that most durably shapes the character of every Gallian — and the house loyalties formed at Lawrence College are often maintained for life.
