The Heart of Lawrence College
The house system is the heart of Lawrence College. Every student who enters the college gates becomes a member of one of the four houses — Wightwick, Walker, Peake or Wright — and that house becomes their home, their community and their family for the duration of their time at the college.
The houses compete against each other in sport, academics, music, drama and a range of other activities throughout the year. This competition builds school spirit, develops leadership, and forges the bonds of brotherhood that characterise Old Gallians throughout their lives. The inter-house shield, awarded to the house with the best overall performance across the year, is among the most coveted prizes in the college.
Wightwick House
Colours: Red & Black · "Serve with Valour" It is named after Rev. Wightwick, a Principal at Lawrence School from 1910 to 1921.Wightwick House is one of the four great houses of Lawrence College, distinguished by its colours of red and black. Red stands for courage, fire and competitive spirit — qualities that define the Wightwick House identity on the sports field and in the classroom alike.
Wightwick boys are known for their fierce determination and house pride. The house has produced many sporting champions and college leaders, and its boys carry the red-and-black spirit long after they leave the college gates as Old Gallians.
Walker House
Colours: Green & White · "Onward and Upward" It is named after Rev. W Eyre Walker, a Principal at Lawrence School from 1921 to 1922.Walker House wears green and white — colours that evoke the pine-forested hills of Ghora Gali and the clarity of purpose that defines a Gallian. Green is the colour of growth, endeavour and the mountain landscape that has shaped Lawrence College for over 166 years.
Walker House has maintained a proud tradition of excellence in both academic and sporting pursuits. Its boys are known for their discipline, teamwork and the quiet confidence that comes from belonging to a house with deep roots in the Gallian tradition.
Peake House
Colour: YELLOW & GREEN · "Defence Not Defiance" It is named after Rev. G.C. Peake, one of the longest serving Principals at Lawrence Royal Military Asylum from 1874 to 1904.Peake House is distinguished by yellow and green — colours that embody vitality, growth and determination. Peake boys take particular pride in academic achievement, debating and cultural competitions, though they compete with equal vigour on the sports field.
The house fosters a culture of mentorship and collective ambition. Peake House alumni carry with them the values of scholarly rigour and service that the house has upheld throughout its history at Lawrence College.
Wright House
Colour: BLUES · "Unity is Strength" It is named after Rev. W.T. Wright, Principal at Lawrence School from 1922 to 1934. It was during his time as a Principal that the name was changed from Lawrence School to Lawrence College in 1927.Wright House wears blue — the colour of ambition, creativity and leadership. Wright boys bring a distinctive energy to every inter-house contest, competing with spirit in sport, drama, music and academics throughout the college year.
Wright House is known for producing well-rounded Gallians: boys who excel not only in one field but across the full breadth of college life. The bonds of brotherhood formed in Wright House are among the most enduring of any Old Gallian's school memories.
House Sizes
Each house accommodates boys from all three schools, creating a genuine cross-age community within the house. Approximate house sizes are:
- Junior & Preparatory School: approximately 40 boys per house at each school level
- Senior School: approximately 75 boys per house
Each house has dedicated dormitories, a common room and its own house staff — creating a genuine home-within-a-school that gives every Gallian a strong sense of belonging and community.
The Inter-House Competition
The inter-house competition is one of the defining features of life at Lawrence College. Throughout the year, the four houses compete across a wide range of sporting, academic and cultural activities. The overall winner receives the prestigious Quaid-e-Azam Shield — the most coveted prize in the Lawrence College year.
