A Year Full of Tradition

Life at Lawrence College is shaped not just by the academic timetable but by a calendar of events that marks the rhythm of the Gallian year. From the solemnity of Founders' Day to the celebration of the Annual Performing Arts Show, these occasions build community, forge memories and develop in every Gallian the social and cultural confidence that distinguishes the Lawrence College education.

Founders' Day

The most important annual occasion in the Lawrence College calendar. Founders' Day commemorates the founding of the college by Maj Gen Sir Henry Montgomery Lawrence in 1860 and is held each October. The event includes a formal march past, physical training displays, guest addresses and the presentation of awards and prizes.

165th Founders' Day — 25 September 2025 — The 165th Founders' Day was held at Jamali Stadium with the Chief Minister of Balochistan, Mir Sarfraz Bugti, as Chief Guest, and Lt. Gen. Syed Aamer Raza, Chief of General Staff, as Guest of Honour. The ceremony included a formal march past, PT display and prize-giving. The college announced 100% examination success rates across all boards. Walker House won the Quaid-e-Azam Shield. Abdul Rafay Bhatti was named Best Student of the Year and Muhammad Usman Kaira took 1st Position in Matriculation.

Annual Performing Arts Show

The Annual Performing Arts Show is one of the highlights of the college calendar — a celebration of student creativity across drama, music, the visual arts and science. Held over two nights each October, the show draws parents, alumni and guests to witness the full range of Gallian talent beyond the sports field and the classroom.

Annual Performing Arts Show — 22–24 September 2025 — English and Urdu theatrical productions were staged over three nights before an audience of parents, alumni and guests, with Chief Guest Zulqarnain Haider (Pakistani entertainment icon) and Guest of Honour Major General Zarrar, General Officer Commanding 12 Division, in attendance. Science exhibitions and student artwork were displayed alongside the dramatic performances, showcasing the full breadth of Gallian creativity.

Sports Day

Sports Day is a showcase of athletic achievement across all four houses — Wightwick, Walker, Peake and Wright. Students compete in track and field athletics, gymnastics, martial arts and archery before an audience of parents and guests. The event culminates in the presentation of trophies to the day's winning house and outstanding individual performers.

Sports Day — 12 July 2025 — Four houses competed fiercely across athletics, gymnastics, martial arts and archery at Jamali Stadium. Walker House claimed the Raza Shah Shaheed Trophy, with Abdullah Sohail named Best Athlete of the Day.

Investiture Ceremony

The Investiture Ceremony marks the formal swearing-in of the Prefectorial Board for the new academic year. The Head Boy and prefects receive their badges of office at a formal parade before the Principal, staff and assembled students — a ceremony that underscores the weight of student leadership and the trust placed in those appointed to serve the college community.

Investiture Ceremony — 1 July 2025 — The Prefectorial Board for the 2025–26 academic year was sworn in at the ceremony. Ahmad Shayan was appointed Head Boy, taking on the responsibility of leading Lawrence College's student body through the new academic year.

Inter-Collegiate Declamation Contest

Lawrence College hosts and participates in inter-school and inter-collegiate declamation contests — competitions in public speaking and debate that develop confidence, rhetoric and the ability to argue a case clearly and persuasively. These competitions bring together students from across Pakistan's leading schools.

All Pakistan Inter-Collegiate Bilingual Declamation Contest — October 2025 — Teams from Aitchison College Lahore, Military College Jhelum and other leading institutions participated alongside Lawrence College students in a bilingual forum for public speaking and student expression.

Art Extravaganza

Lawrence College's Art Extravaganza is an inter-school competition bringing together students from schools across Pakistan to compete in nine categories of performing and visual arts. The event celebrates creativity, cultural expression and artistic excellence — drawing judges, dignitaries and audiences from across the country.

Art Extravaganza 2025 — "Our Power, Our Planet" — Twenty-one schools competed across nine categories of performing and visual arts with a focus on environmental awareness and plastic reduction. Chief Guest was Zulqarnain Haider, with Professor Dr. Sultan Satti as Guest of Honour. Kids City High School, Islamabad won the Art Extravaganza Shield 2025.
Art Extravaganza 2026 — "Hand in Hand for Peace" — Mrs. General Zarar Mahmood attended as Chief Guest. Army Public School, Cliffden Camp won the overall shield across nine categories of performing and visual arts.

Teachers' Day

Lawrence College marks World Teachers' Day as an occasion to formally recognise the dedication of its faculty. Student speakers address the assembly to acknowledge the role that teachers play in shaping the Gallian character and in sustaining the college's tradition of academic excellence.

Teachers' Day — 2025 (Inaugural) — Lawrence College celebrated Teachers' Day for the first time. Student speakers — Usman Jahan Bari, Muhammad Salar, Muhammad Akmal and Ibtisam Muzammil — addressed the gathering in appreciation of the college's teaching staff.

Thanksgiving Lunch

One of the more distinctive traditions at Lawrence College is the annual Thanksgiving Lunch — an occasion that reverses the usual order of things. Senior students serve meals to the college's support staff — janitors, gardeners and other workers — in a formal gesture of gratitude and recognition for those who keep the college running day to day.

Thanksgiving Lunch — November 2025 — Intermediate class students served meals to janitors, gardeners and other support staff of the college. The event remains one of the most powerful expressions of the Gallian values of humility and service.

Independence Day

14 August — Pakistan's Independence Day — is observed at Lawrence College with flag hoisting, Quranic recitation and student presentations. The day holds particular significance for the college: Lawrence College Head Boy Bashir Ahmed was the first person to raise the Pakistani flag on 14 August 1947, and that connection to the founding moment of Pakistan is marked with appropriate pride each year.

Independence Day — 14 August 2025 — The national flag was hoisted at Lawrence College in a ceremony marking Pakistan's 78th Independence Day. Prayers, recitations and student addresses commemorated the occasion and the college's historic role in Pakistan's founding moment.

Defence Day

Lawrence College marks Pakistan's Defence Day on 6 September each year with a wreath-laying ceremony at Yadgar-e-Shuhada — the college's own memorial to fallen soldiers. The occasion honours the sacrifices of Pakistan's armed forces and connects Gallians to the country's military heritage and national service.

Defence Day — 6 September 2025 — A wreath-laying ceremony was held at Yadgar-e-Shuhada on campus. Quranic recitations and prayers honoured the national martyrs of Pakistan's defence.

Eid Milad-un-Nabi

Lawrence College observes the birthday of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) with a formal ceremony at the Junior School. Students present Quranic recitations, naats and religious discourses — an occasion that reinforces the spiritual and moral foundations of the Gallian character.

Eid Milad-un-Nabi — 11 September 2025 — A ceremony at the Junior School included Quranic recitations, naats and discourses on the teachings and life of the Holy Prophet (PBUH), attended by students, staff and guests.

Book Festival

Lawrence College's Book Festival brings together major Pakistani publishers and literary organisations on campus — providing students with direct access to books and to the culture of reading. The event supports the college's mission to cultivate lifelong intellectual curiosity alongside academic achievement.

Book Festival — August 2025 — The National Book Foundation, Pakistan Academy of Letters and major publishers participated on campus, promoting reading culture across all three schools. Students engaged directly with authors and publishers throughout the day.

Earth Hour

Lawrence College participates in the global Earth Hour initiative — switching off all non-essential lights for one hour to raise awareness of climate change and environmental responsibility. The event reflects the college's commitment to educating Gallians as global citizens with a responsibility to the world they inherit.

Earth Hour — March 2026 — Lawrence College joined the global Earth Hour movement, switching off all non-essential lighting for one hour. Student-led discussions on environmental stewardship accompanied the event.
